Actiu is a Spanish design company specialising in the design and manufacture of innovative furniture solutions for workspaces and public areas. Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Castalla, Spain, Actiu is renowned for its focus on sustainability, quality, and ergonomic design, offering a wide range of products such as office desks, chairs, and collaborative furniture. The company combines advanced technology with creative design to enhance comfort and productivity in modern environments. Actiu recently refurbished their Barcelona offices located on the iconic c/ Tuset just off Av. Diagonal, the city’s emerging design district. Working with local architect Isern Serra the refurbishment project captures the essence of the brand.

The offices are organised around a central kitchen zone, which acts as both an informal focal point and a functioning kitchen to accommodate catering for events. The open plan space also includes a work area, meeting room and an exhibition space where the various elements of furniture are displayed including a raised dais at one end of the space that acts as a bookend to the space. The entrance to the offices is articulated with a full height partition wall that has a circular opening with soft rounded edges that helps to delineate the more private and public parts of the office. Curtain rails and full height fabric room divers create a more private meeting area when necessary. One entire wall is glazed, flooding the interior with natural daylight and providing views over the elegant facades of the buildings opposite.

Serra specialises in a warm comfortable Mediterranean style of interior design with an earthy colour palette that incorporates natural fabrics and other warm finishes that add acoustic comfort. Full height floor to ceiling curtains add a tactile contrast to the micro-cement wall and raised platform finishes; a timber lined ceiling treatment over the kitchen/servery area provides acoustic comfort; the same floor finish is used throughout the space to unify the various areas. Planters are dotted around the space with lush green pops of colour that add a biophilic element to the interior. The overall effect is cosy and welcoming yet neutral in order to put the spotlight on the various elements of Actiu’s furniture design. an approach that reflects the brand identity.
The lighting scheme combines recessed linear cut-outs in the plaster ceiling together with a selection of Vibia lighting products including Plusminus (Stefan Diez), North (Ari Levy), Asia (Antonio Arola) and Musa (Note Design Studio) which are integrated with the various different zones of the showroom.
